Carbon Pulse: Singapore’s EDB hosts Straatos
Straatos in Singapore, as the city-state builds itself into a hub for credible carbon markets.
May 2026 · Carbon Pulse
Carbon Pulse — the carbon-market news service — covered Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB) hosting Straatos, as Singapore pushes to advance high-integrity carbon-market innovation and financing.
Straatos was there as one of the ventures in the EDB-supported Blue Catalyst Challenge. Here is the public context around that story.
What Singapore is building
Singapore is positioning itself as a regional hub for developing, financing and scaling credible carbon-market solutions — it already hosts more than 160 carbon services and trading firms. EDB is backing that on two fronts: the Blue Catalyst Challenge, an open-innovation programme run with WWF and Hatch Blue that drew 130+ applications from 37 countries and put ten ventures through a two-week Singapore accelerator; and its Carbon Project Development Grant, which funds feasibility studies for Article 6 projects, alongside implementation agreements Singapore has signed with a growing list of partner countries.
Where Straatos fits
Straatos was one of the Blue Catalyst ventures, and one of the six selected at Demo Day. The challenge’s focus — geospatial mapping, carbon modelling and biodiversity monitoring for blue-carbon ecosystems — is exactly the layer Straatos builds: a verifiable, at-source record for hard-to-reach projects like mangroves. A carbon-services hub only works if the credits flowing through it are trustworthy, and that is a data problem before it is a financing one.
